Gionee Marathon M5 Lite loops back to recovery mode after updating. What to do ?

The smartphone runs on Amigo OS. It downloaded the update as usual and before installing it , it prompted to back up my data ( but deemed it unnecessary). I didn’t back up and proceeded to install. It rebooted and went into Recovery , although it should’ve installed it and restarted. Now , in Recovery mode , I scrolled to “update from sdcard” and selected the very visible update file in .zip form ( was the first file in that cache ). It continued to install it but stated error and the message “update file is not correct”. Same happens in updating from sdcard2. I tried formatting the system and clearing the cache partition. It reboots back to Recovery mode after every option. Pls help , fellow Gionee users.
