Sorry for the long post, but this has been on my mind a lot recently. I need to make a decision before July 7th.
I've been thinking about switching over to Verizon so I can lock in an unlimited data plan, but am not sure if it's the right thing to do. I hope to hear some of your opinions.
A little background info:
I currently have a Nexus S on T-Mobile with an Unlimited everything (data speeds are throttled after 5GB of use) for $79.99/mo without a contract (Even More Plus plan). My bill comes to ~$96/mo. with taxes and insurance. I love that the phone is the first to receive Android updates, and full support in other apps. A recent example would be Skype. The new Skype app has added video calling capabilities. Only 5 devices are supported right now, and the Nexus S is one of them.
If I switched to Verizon today, I would buy the Samsung Charge. In some ways I feel this would be a serious downgrade from my Nexus S which is what's making this a tough decision. I would have a 90 day exchange period on the device (Costco), so if something new comes out within that time I could exchange the Charge for it. I'm guessing the Bionic or Galaxy S II Function might be possible options.
If the Nexus Prime was an option, my decision to switch would be easy.....but that's not the case right now. If the Prime (or any pure Google device) was confirmed to be Verizon bound I'd feel more comfortable about making the switch.
My monthly bill on Verizon is also going to be more expensive. I'm estimating anywhere from $11-$40 more a month depending on the plan I choose & if I can get my corporate discount applied to the service or not. So $11 more per month is the best case scenario and $40 is worst case.
Currently I am not a heavy data user but I anticipate my usage (along with everyone else's) will increase significantly over the next few years. That's the main reason I'm even considering the switch right now. Unlimited LTE service for $30/mo seems like a pretty good deal to me.
Would you give up a Nexus S with the pure Google/Android experience and pay more per month just to lock in an unlimited data plan on Verizon???
