Gmail app icon bubble multiplying number of unread emails

Hi,

I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+.

The unread email count bubble worked correctly for the first few weeks, but now for some reason the number of unread emails displayed is squared/multiplied by itself. For example, if I have 5 unread emails the bubble will display 25 unread emails. If I have 6 unread emails it will display 36 in the bubble.

I have searched "label:unread" and there are no other unread emails.

Has anyone else had this problem?
