Gmail / hangouts app question

Hi everyone, new to android but not to the community, I've been on imore and Crackberry for years.

I use a different email account (than my main email account) for online dating and have a Google voice number associated with it. I'd like to have the gv texts go to the hangouts app but adding that dating email account to hangouts also adds it to the Gmail app where my main account is which I don't want to mix the emails.

Does anyone know how I can do this? Or is there another option that I haven't considered? I don't mind if the dating email account is listed in the Gmail app as long as the emails from the dating account are not shown when I use the "all accounts" viewing option.

You can add it to hangouts and then go into that account in your phone's account settings (path depends on the device, but generally is settings > accounts > google accounts > choose the account) and choose not to sync gmail, photos, whatever you don't want to sync.

You can set GMail to not combine the inboxes, then you can select which account to view. I think adding the account as you've already done is the only way to get it into Hangouts.

unfortunately, I like the all inboxes view. is there any way to have the dating account tied to hangouts but not appear in the Gmail app? or did I misunderstand you?
