Gmail notification on lock screen

Hey guys, first time Android user - love the One.

How can I get gmail notifications on my lock screen? I'm using the gmail app, not the default one. I'd prefer to keep the look of my lockscreen but be able to add this feature, I have it set to display notifications in settings but it seems to not show new emails via gmail app.

the HTC lock screen only works with their own applications unfortunately. You'll have to install a launcher or a 3rd party lock screen notification application that supports gmail and any other applications you use.

"Widget locker" allows you to place custom sliders, shortcuts, and widgets on your lockscreen. You would be able to use the gmail widget on the lockscreen, but it takes up a lot of space. Also some 3rd party launchers let you have just an icon(gmail, twitter, facebook, google+) with an unread count in the corner(apex, nova, and holo launcher are a few).
