Gmail on Nexus 7 - noob question

Ok here is my noob questions, this is my first Android device

I open gmail via the icon. I create new email, how do I look up my contacts to put into the too box? I type the name, it does not auto find it.

it should pop up with contact suggestions as you type.

It doesnot. I have not done anything that I know of that would prevent it. Ill try again and give it little more time.

If you go into the People app, are your contacts listed there?

I had the same problem, went into people and synched my gmail contacts, seems to have done the trick

that was exactly it. the contacts was not synced.
