Gmail push results in duplicate emails

Have done some searching but unable to find a definitive answer.

I've set up Gmail (using my PC) to push my POP emails to my Tbolt and receive them in the HTC mail app. This works, but, whenever I get an email it shows up in both my POP account and my Gmail account so I have duplicate email messages.

How do I stop this from happening? Do I delete the Gmail account from the HTC app? If so, how?

Appreciate any suggestions.

Someone with a lot more experience needs to jump in here, but I had the same issue and I left the Gmail and deleted the POP account because Gmail pulls my POP info in. I like the Gmail app better at this point but I may change my mind. I don't see the advangtage of having both set up.

You need to turn off all syncing on the gmail app I believe.

Go to Gmail --> menu --> accounts --> menu --> account settings. Click on Google under "Manage Accounts" and turn off gmail sync.

For what it's worth, I'd recommend using the Gmail app vs. the HTC app for your GMail account, especially if push email and full inbox functionality (labels, stars, etc) is important to you. Just my 2?

Done. Thanks. We'll see what happens. I like the functionality of the HTC app and if I can use it with my Gmail account pushing messages, it works for me. Hopefully, your suggestion on how to solve my problem, will give me what I need.

EDIT: Sorry about that...If you're using the HTC app to get your gmail, you need to enable IMAP on your gmail account and not POP. POP will create a duplicate, but the IMAP won't. Any email you send on your phone after that will appear in the imap sent tab on your gmail account when viewing it on your computer. That should fix it. Enable IMAP in your gmail settings, then click the configuration tab and the Android link...it will explain how to set it up...just set it up using your phone under the POP/IMAP configuration and gmail will do it seamlessly.

Hope it helps, as it works for me!

Don't think this is what the OP meant...he simply asked how to stop the notification from coming in to the GMail app if he preferred to use the HTC mail client for GMail instead.

I do agree that the IMAP is the preferred protocol to use to set up a remote email client rather than POP. Since the OP said he's getting "push" (instant) notification for his gmail account, I just assumed that he meant IMAP instead of POP. To be honest, I don't use the HTC email app, so I can't really be sure about that though...seems you'd have to set your polling frequency pretty high to get a "push"-like response using POP though.

Oh...I read it different...Hell, that's easy, just press and hold on the gmail icon, and drag it off the screen...He'll never get a notification in gmail then because there's no app to notify him. It's still on the phone, but if it's not on a screen he won't get it.

Been away for a few days and haven't checked the forum. Thanks for your responses. I did what I'd suggested in my original post and it's worked. I deleted the Gmail account on my TB (since I don't use it for sending or receiving) and now I'm able to use the HTC mail with my Comcast email account. Gmail "collects" the mail from Comcast and pushes the mail to my phone with no polling required.
