Gmail question for Evo owners

so AC announced the updated Gmail app.

I checked my Evo. I'm running Gmail version 2.3 so I'm a few updates behind. However my Evo also shows this is not a downloaded app (it also doesn't show up in my list of apps in my market.

So I'm guessing this came with the last update Sprint sent or it's bloatware (not really) from sprint.

Can I update via the on-air download? Should I update? I'm on android 2.2

I'm not sure if this happens with newer HTC stock software versions, but it used to be that apps that were pre-installed (Gmail, Facebook. . .) weren't shown in the market as being installed. It doesn't cause a problem because the first time you install them from the market, it upgrades the existing and creates the market link so you receive future updates.

The Gmail app itself is on the stock ROM. You confused me a bit with the "bloatware" comment.

Go ahead and update your Gmail. It will create that market link and you'll see it for future updates.

Sorry, I guess I view any pushed application as bloatware, even tho I loves me my Gmail.  that's why I said (not really). ;)

So I'm golden to download the latest and greatest Gmail? Super, thank you much... I'll give it a whirl.

Interesting.

The link is broken. The QR doesn't work, and Gmail is unsearchable in the market.
WTH?

Google must have pulled the update. Mine shows up in my download area under the market but it says it is not found when you click on it.

Hmm, I wonder what's wrong with the update. I installed mine this morning after seeing the Android Central front page.

you're not missing anything without the update that just happened though, it's an update for gingerbread devices - doesn't do much for the evo right now

Is this the latest update since 2.3? Because that's the version I'm running.

I thought it added other bug fixes and label fixes besides the one Gingerbread fix? It didn't sound like a GB only fix but maybe I misunderstood.

I could've misread as well, lol, I'm a little out of it with a cold right now - but I haven't noticed any enhanced user experience with it.

Something is very buggy about this update, since downloading it my messages are not being automatically pushed through. Think I'm going to uninstall the update until they get this together.

According to AC, gmail pulled it due to some issues from some trying to update from 2.2, but 2.3 users should have been unaffected.

Guess I'll just bide my time and wait! LOL.

If you install appbrain, then search for updates through it, it will update all preloaded apps (although all it really does is take you too the market to update)

Since we're talking about Gmail, am I missing anything by plugging my gmail account into the normal email account? The actual gmail app on my Hero sucked, and never showed an updated "new mail" count. Have things gotten better, or is using my regular email app sufficient?
