Gmail "server unavailable, try again later"

[Android Central Question]

On my LG stylo 2, Gmail frequently tells me "server unavailable, try again later". This has been going on for a couple of months. Issue is same on wifi and data.

Welcome to Android Central! Any issues with other Google apps (like Calendar, Maps, etc.)? Do you only have your Gmail account on the Gmail app, or do you also have other email accounts on it (like an Exchange account)? If so, then it could be an issue with that non-Google email server.
