Hi guys,

Currently using a Galaxy Nexus and plan to upgrade when the Nexus 5 is released. My current phone has a regular sized simcard, while according to the leaked manual, the Nexus 5 will use a micro sim. I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, but if we ordered the Nexus 5 off the play store, would it likely come with a simcard we can activate? Or is it up to us to get a new one from our service provider?

Is anyone else in the same boat as me? I can order a simcard off of Roger's website for $10, but I don't want to buy it if it's not neccessary, but at the same time I don't want my new phone to arrive and not have a simcard.

Thanks in advance!

It won't come with any simcard. Your service provider will give you one.

But I was wondering if any phone (manufacturer) would give you card!?

If you want to keep your original sim card you can DIY yourself and cut it to the micro sim size.

I see. I guess though if I buy the phone off google play, my service provider won't even know I got a new phone so it would be up to me to get a new simcard before the phone arrives.

On the rogers website, I have the ability to order a new simcard.

I bought a sim cutter from Amazon for my wife who went from a GNex to a Nexus 4, worked no problem. Pretty sure it cost around $5, half the price of buying a sim from the carrier.

I have the GN on Verizon and I am upgrading to the Nexus 5. I am moving to another service provider and my plan is to get a sim card and new phone number from them.

Thanks for the advice people. I ended up ordering one from Roger's website for $10. I figured I probably needed a new one, i'm assuming my current one isn't LTE compatible.. but who knows.

You have a few choices;
- To order a replacement
- Go in store and get it cut (if they put it in they take liability for any damage - my phone provider told me this as they suspected one of their stores F-ed my nexus 4, turned out they managed to unjam the sim tray and kept my old sim just to show the other store how bad at cutting they are)
- Ask the staff nicely for a free replacement sim (where i am there are about $2, but most the time the staff will waive the fee - least every guy i have had, as they were stoked to see 2 nexus 4's in their store, the female staff went to charge but forgot about it on another occasion - maybe i am lucky, girlfriend got hers waived later on to as she said her phone got stolen -> they asked a few questions thinking she was lying - thankfully she refound the mobile.)
- Cut it yourself.

The GNex does not use a regular sized (mini) SIM. It uses a micro SIM. You should not have to do anything unless your SIM is not LTE compatible. The smallest size is the nano SIM.

If your on att your SIM card swap is free! Just get a tray if you need a micro SIM for your second device like me! (HTC One & N5)
