Go to Home Screen from Recent Apps view without Home button

Hi all,

From my previous phones, I have become used to being able to access the home screen from the equivalent of the Recent Apps view by clicking on the background/wallpaper. I know I can also just click the Home button to do this, but I am very used to being able to just click on the phone screen to see Home, and would like to know if there is a way to enable this for this phone. I have looked through the settings, Googled, and searched threads on this forum, but found nothing. Currently using Nova Launcher, but found I cannot do this on either that or the default launcher. Any help appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! What if you tap the Recent Apps button again? That works on my old Nexus 7 running Marshmallow.

Unfortunately, tapping the button again causes the phone to go to the open app behind the front spot of the queue, which I also find to be a strange feature. I am on 7.0 (Nougat). Thanks for the suggestion though.
