Going from BlackBerry 8330 to this or Fascinate

I'm going to this phone or Fascinate and one thing I wanted is to at some point load a custom rom. And I've been reading that the Droid X is locked to the point where it bricks on messing with the bootloader. Which would be a better choice now that this bit of info has popped up (I'm still waiting for news about the Fascinate).

If you really want to root your phone, then wait for the Fascinate. You really aren't losing any quality in the device you're getting. But I wouldn't wait unless you know that you're going to get alot of use out of rooting your device.

Rooting your device (from what I understand) gives you much easier functionality, and no matter what device I had, I don't think I would load custom ROMs.

On the 15th I will be going from the 9650 to the X. I don't really care about the ROMing.

I have a feeling we'll get root. It's ROM's and custom kernels that we won't get. But, you shouldn't really have any need for custom kernels. Apparently, it's believed that we can still overclock the X if we like (milestone-overclock - Project Hosting on Google Code), through the use of a kernel module (rather than modifying the kernel itself), and we can still wifi tether, some of them don't require any kernel modifications (Barnacle Wifi Tether - Android app on AppBrain). I'd like to be able to wifi tether, not so interested in overclocking. Though, I understand a lot of people are.

Again, this is assuming we get root.

I'm still thinking about getting the Droid X over the Fascinate, because I love the UI the Droid X uses where you can change the size of the widgets. If I could see more of the UI of the Fascinate I would be able to make a better choice.
