Going the unlocked route?

Returning to T0-Mobile after a disastrous year with AT&T. Does anyone have any experience with using an unlocked, dual SIM phone like a S9 or a OnePLus 5T on T-Mobile? Not sure about wanting to do the $30/month game unless it is unavoidable.

For what it's worth, I had no problems with a dual-SIM ASUS Zenfone 2 a couple of years ago (but I never used the 2nd SIM slot).
