i have an old thunderbolt in my dresser, the contract expired and since then i got an iphone. i was planning on taking it with me to the DR, can i use a SIM card from one of their carriers? they have companies like tricom and viva that uses CDMA. tricom has LTE. i just wanted to use my phone with their data so i can check facebook and upload pictures.i don't need it to make calls or text. i plan on using it at my grandmothers house with the wifi but i'll be spending a week at a resort and would like to have internet access while i'm there :)

Is that a Verizon phone? Tricom is the only carrier that uses CDMA down here.

FYI Claro has the same frequencies as AT&T and Orange has the T-Mobile ones...

yes it is a verizon phone, so can i just get a SIM card from tricom and use tricoms data plan? or do i need to unlock my phone too?

Tricom does not use sim card, You got to take the phone it self to the company and they will connect over there for you.. Only companys that use sim is Orange, Claro and viva.. which should work on your phone if its unlock, Yet again verzion phone don't use sim cards I think, and service in DR is only good with Sim card phone (I'm a noob for saying that) No sim phones have lack of signal over there

The T-Bolt is not a world phone. The sim card is only for 4G data. I think you'd be better off buying a cheap GSM phone of some sort with unlocked sim. You *might* be able to use the T-Bolt on a CDMA network there, but probably only with Verizon's international plan. Call the Global Services folks at Verizon and ask them what your options are.

well i looked up the company

Tricom (CDMA To LTE)
LTE In Service: Yes
Deployment Status: In Service March 2013
LTE Band: LTE-1900
LTE-A Enabled: No
Country: Dominican Rep.

Verizon uses the 700 MHz band for LTE, so the Thunderbolt won't be able to use it on Tricom's network. I'm pretty sure Wi-Fi is the only data option for the Thunderbolt outside the United States.

The Thunderbolt doesn't support gsm internationally. You can use it in DR on Verizon's plan for data, 100mb/$25 if you sign up for it, or about $20,000 per gb of data if you use pay per use.
