Good App For Messaging/Can you turn off text messaging

Whats a good app for messaging.. Im using Handcent which im loving because you can assign individual ring tones. but now i get two notifications/sound alerts when i get a text message. its pissing me off. is there a way to turn off the text message app that comes with the phone

Open the sock messaging app then...
menu > settings > uncheck received notifications
and you're good to go
