Is the Hero a good device for a former Blackberry/non-power user?

I am fed up with my non-receptive, battery draining, slow and buggy Tour and plan on uphrading to an Android device whenever I can. I like the Hero the most because I don't like the Moment and Intercept, and the EVO seems unnecessary for what I want: a great Android phone that is good enough to run good software and a whole lot of mobile browsing. Is the Hero right for me? I have played with one a multitude of times and love it, and can only imagine how awesome it would be with CM6. The only thing that worries me is that it'll be a year-old device in a few months. Is this fear rational? Thanks!

i'm a former crackberry-addict myself (Blackberry Curve 8330 => Tour 9630) and i can say you will be happy with the Hero.

sometimes the keyboard is laggy but its tolerable...others will say to root it to make it better but if its your first android phone, wait a little while before doing so imo

i miss my physical QWERTY keyboard that my blackberry had but i got used to the virtual keyboard very fast so im fine with it now lol.

the browser looks great....sooooo much better than the blackberry browser!!!

like i said....i'm a crackberry defector and i absolutely love my hero! i cant believe i didnt switch to android sooner!!

Thanks! And it's kinda funny, I went that same exact path with my Blackberries! But yeah, I really want to switch to Android, the Blackberry OS is so boring and there are very few fun apps.

Poynt is now available on Andriod and that was the closer for me. I am going from my Tour to an Inc tomorrow...will wait for it, but getting battery/case/screen pros first, then phone arrives and BOOOYAAA!

Ive been a diehard BB addict for years since heck, before the Pearl, and I can honestly say I dont miss it at all. Got my Hero rooted and running 2.1 today and couldnt be happier. Sure the camera on the Hero isnt the best, but hey, no phone is perfect right?
