I tried the Nova Launcher App and it was great until I found out it disables the double tap function to knock ON/OFF unless you pay for the premium version.

Disabling a primary built in function unless I pay extra, makes Nova ransomware as far as Im concerned.

So, are there any other launchers anyone recommends that dont try to hold you hostage but still work well?

Really? I think it's a good tradeoff off. It's only a couple of dollars, not much at all. Instead of labeling them as ransomware(lol) why not actually support their amazing work.

And I really don't think you'll find another alternative launcher with NATIVE knock on/of feature that prime Nova provides. I am talking about the ability to use fingerprint after lock via double tap to screen.

You should still be able to knock on and if I'm not mistaken try knock off on the notification bar...

Action Launcher is what I've used for a while. Never had an issue with it.

Just double tap notification bar. But honestly Nova is worth the few bucks.

I've used Nova for years. Loved it! I'm using the stock for now, but eventually I might use it. I'm not fancy on my launchers lol

Calling it ransomware is a little extreme. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if no other launcher will do this without the paid version either. Is Nova Worth the 4 dollars? I think so. Building an app isn't easy.

As for the cost, you can download Google Play rewards and within a few weeks you will probably have most of the app cost just by answering surveys.

Good app devs should be rewarded. A launcher would be one of the most used apps you download... The price is a small sacrifice to repay the dev for their time.

I paid for nova launcher years ago and do not regret out for a min. Being able to have any phone set up just how I like it regardless of brand or Android version makes the cost well worth it

If money is tight, you can wait for it to go on sale. I picked it up a few years back for 25 cents on sale.

Sorry but if you can afford a $500 smartphone, you should have no issue buying a $5 app to support a developers work.

Your complaint is overstated. Lineage os 14.1 Settings - Buttons. Go configure whatever you want. That Nova does not give you something you feel entitled to is not the end of the line.

Disagree... Ransomware is something unwanted that takes over your phone. You don't have to use Nova launcher. The free version is there and offers plenty. The paid version is very affordable at the regular price and you can find it on sale at times for less than a dollar.

I have no problem with the price or paying a dev for good works or buying the premium version for ADDED features.

I have a problem when they DISABLE a primary built in feature and want to get paid to give it back.

Its not about the money it about the ransom aspect.

By the way it most certainly is a ransom when someone takes something away and demands $$ to give it back.

Definition of ransom. 1 : a consideration paid or demanded for the release of someone or something

Definition of Ransomware: Ransomware is a type of malware that prevents or limits users from accessing their system

Disabling the tap ON/OFF function is very much limiting access.

Knock On/Off is a core function of the LG launcher. The dev of Nova is charging because they had to do work to get it functional.

They didn't take it away in the free one, they did the work and added it to the paid one.

Actually if you pay for Nova it allows you to double tap to lock screen only.

The free one allows you to double tap the notification bar to lock and double tap the main screen to unlock.

Apex launcher works the same way.

Good luck finding a launcher that doesn't change some aspect of your current functionality.

I didn't even know that it only worked on the paid version because I have had the paid version for so long since it gives so many options that are well worth a couple of bucks that it costs. Nova Launcher without the premium access is nothing in comparison to the amazing features you get when you go premium.
