I'm new to Google phones. The last one I owned was a Nexus 4 (Nexus 9 tablet as well).
I've been an Android fan since my first Nexus 7 tablet my wife bought me by mistake. Before that I was (I hate to admit it) an Apple fanboy.
I was under the impression that when I purchased a Pixel phone I would have unlimited storage for full resolution pics but that doesn't seem to be the case now. Any help here would be great.

Also.. I've always used ES File explorer for my wireless file transfers. This phone is telling me that the apk I have to install ESFile Explorer before they made it a subscription product is virally infectious (I don't think it is) and I can't seem to get it installed. I need wireless file transfer. What else is out there? What are some of you guys using?

And what's the difference between Google and Google One?

Again.. Looking for some advice.

Thanks!

I'm not sure about ES File Explorer, I haven't used it in about 8 years. The Google app is basically the interface for Assistant, how you can setup all the Assistant functionality and Settings. Google One is a paid program, if you purchase a larger Drive storage option (100GB, 200GB, etc) then you are part of Google One, and have some extra benefits besides extra storage. It might offer some things without paying for extra storage, but I believe most of the Google One benefits open up when you pay for storage.

Nearby Share is going to be great when it finally rolls out to all devices. Right now it works good to share between two Android phones that are capable. But you still can't share with a Chromebook, and I don't think you can share with a laptop yet.

I thought Pixels were exempt from the new Google Photos storage rules? Is states that in the linked Google page.

Have you checked your backup & sync options in the Photos app?

Now I see the difference, with a Pixel you can backup in High Quality for free and not impact your storage. But if you opt to backup in Original Quality that does affect your storage limit. So yes, you can backup unlimited pictures....in high quality.

Here you can see the new Google Photos storage policy.

About ES Explorer. Yes, it was removed and I recommend you to stop using that app, there are safer and much better file managers. For wireless sharing you can use the new Android feature 'Nearby share', available for most devices.

Thanks for your help.
The Nearby share ain't working for me yet. At least not between the phone and my Chromebook. I'm looking for something that will hook into my WiFi network so I can move my files to my NAS and my other computers on the network easily. ES did that very effectively.

There's gotta be something I can replace ES with.

I'm so used to SD storage on my phone and now don't have that. It's the only thing I don't like about the Pixel phone. Gonna be take some getting used to.

Any advice or help in this matter would be appreciated.

I use Solid Explorer. It's a paid app but you can try it out for free for a couple of weeks. I think they have a big discount right now. Worth trying.

Nearby share between phone and Chromebook is supposed to be arriving "soon". But Google has been saying that for a few months now. LOL. Other than that, app recommendations from other users and find one that works for you. For me....I just use my Drive account to share everything between my phone and Chromebook. But I don't have a NAS here at home, so I can see where that wouldn't be a viable option in that setup.

The Pixel 4 never had unlimited Original Quality backups, but will retain unlimited High Quality backups. (Greedog was asking about "full resolution," which would be Original Quality.)

You could try AirDroid or WiFi File Explorer.

(Incidentally, you can transfer files wirelessly between two phones without Nearby Share if both have the Files by Google app installed -- but that won't help you if you want to transfer files to a computer.)

Yeah! I grabbed Solid Explorer for $1.30 but I'm not feeling it. I want to see my PC and NAS files and folders on my phone. If that's possible I haven't figured it out yet.

It took some time for the paid version to register. I think that's why I couldn't figure out how to get it to do what I needed. Now, I can see why you guys promoted this app. It's all working great and I can now see all my PC's and my server. All my cloud storages are registered and working great.
It is quite similar to ES Explorer but, I can see that this one might even be better.
It certainly looks nicer.

So...

Thanks for the advice.

PS Javier..
I didn't even have to try the steps in the link you sent. It just took a bit of patience.

Excellent! Glad everything is working fine.

Quick tip for Solid. Open a folder, switch to landscape mode and enjoy dragging things around :)

I use CX File Explorer. I don't think it was a paid app. Allows you to transfer files on your wifi network.
