Google Account Sync Contacts

I am trying to remove the "Other Contacts" or Ungrouped contacts from my phone. I do not want to delete them out of my Google Account. This can be done on other phones by going to People -> Menu -> Sync Groups. However on the Thunderbolt you can just omit from viewing them which works. But, when you compose an email for example all those contacts are listed. I have over 1000 "Other Contacts" which I do not care for on my phone.

Has anyone found a way to only sync certain contact groups on the Thunderbolt?

PS: I did search here and on Google to find instructions on how to Sync Groups however it is not available on ThunderBolt HTC Sense it seems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just curious, are you using Google Sync or Active Sync? Not sure if that even matters, but...

I am using both. I even did a factory reset with just the Google account and I was unable to specify which groups I want to synchronize.

I was wondering the same thing. According to Google documentation, only contacts in the "My Contacts" group/label should be syncing but for some reason the ThunderBolt syncs all of them.

Active Sync works on Android? well hot dooky...
Its nice the native app works without a hitch at least for now...

Its nice you can filter out when viewing "People" but the contacts are still there and quite annoying when trying to send an email the search picks them all up.

Well all is wonderful with my Thunderbolt. The problem now is that I cant get Active Sync to recognize my Xoom. In the long run the only thing I wont be able to port over will be my Outlook contacts because I can use google sync to get my Outlook calener. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

I launch the sync center in Windows 7 but it never will recognize a compatable "partner". Please excuse my ignorance, I used to us ITunes:-\

Couldn't you just turn off the contact sync option on your phone and then go to your PC, export the contacts from Gmail(by selecting only the group you want), take that vCard and put it on your SD and then go into People, hit Menu then Import/Export and choose the vCard?

Sure, that can work. But it defeats the purpose of sync'd contacts. This seems exist on a few other HTC phones (Eris and Desire for example). It could be "by design" but most other phones can choose what to sync not just filter out the view in People.

Anyone else see this happening?
