Google + and picture security

I would like to activate my G+ profile and use in conjunction with hangouts. People have shared with me that the integration between G+ and their phone is so tight and so obtuse that they have inadvertently published / shared photos they hadn't intended to.

I have yet to fond clear / concise guidance on this.

I have a nexus 4 and HTC One. I switch among them.

Sharing from mobile requires hitting at least 3 buttons unless there is a setting to auto share stuff that I don't know about.
