Google app won't update with antivirus installed

Hello,
For a few months I've had problems updating the Google app.
It will download, but will crash my Nook HD+ during every attempted update/installation.
I eventually uninstalled my antivirus (Avast) and the app updated successfully.
I then installed Malwarebytes and the Google app again would not update.
Uninstalling Malwarebytes allowed the app to again update properly.
I could only find one thread on this issue. It had no solution.
Does anyone have an idea regarding antivirus blocking the Google app update?

Don't need an antivirus app. They are unnecessary as long as you install apps from the Google Play Store.

Welcome to Android Central! I agree, get rid of the antivirus app. It can be hard to know what it might be doing in the background to interfere with normal processes. What device you have , it's on Android 6?
