Google apps on unlocked HTC one

I have an unlocked HTC one and I can't uninstall some Google apps like play books etc which I don't use. I can't even remove the Google+ messenger which is no more needed as I have the hangouts app. Is this the case for other unlocked users as well or is something wrong with mine.

Same on my phone, so it's probably normal. Google apps, stock reader, kids-whatever... I would like to know how to remove some of that crud myself.

Core apps can't be removed without root access, however you can disable them in the app settings which will prevent them from appearing in your app drawer.
