Google calendar name in Galaxy S6 S Planner

For many years I have had a gmail account of the form firstname.lastname@gmail.com

Also, many years ago, I created a Google calendar attached to that account. At that time, the calendar was being used by me within my work group (secretarial staff had access, etc) and I named the calendar with a name relevant to my work position, say Workname

I now have a Galaxy S6 and I sync my Google calendar to the phone's calendar app, S Planner. When I first did this, it dutifully copied across Workname as the name of that Google calendar

I no longer use that Google calendar in the work environment and I wish to change the name of the calendar to Firstname

I have made the change to the name via Google Calendar using the Google Chrome web browser

My Galaxy S6 stubbornly continues to call the synced Google calendar by the old name Workname

I have tried the following all without success:
  • Turning the phone off then on again
  • Looking for a menu item in the Galaxy S6 that would allow me to rename the synced calendar within the phone
  • Disconnecting and then reconnecting the Google account with the Galaxy S6 (this, of course, resulted in everything resyncing within the phone, such as my contacts stored in Google; but it also resulted in the name of my calendar in Google Calendar to be changed back from Firstname to Workname!!!)

It's not the biggest issue in the world, but it does irritate me

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I believe that I have got to the bottom of this issue.

It seems that the underlying issue is the naming of one's primary calendar in Google Calendar. Historically, it seems to have been very difficult to change the name of the primary calendar once it has been established.

In the current Google Calendar interface, it appears to be straightforward to change the name of the primary calendar. However, possibly due to syncing confusion with the Galaxy S6, the original name kept coming back like a nasty virus.

In the end I got fed up, changed the name of the primary calendar in Google Calendar, logged out and went away in disgust.

When I looked again much later on, wonder upon wonder, both Google Calendar and the Galaxy S6 are now using the new name for the primary calendar!

I remain cautious that the old name may yet again reappear, but for the moment at least I seem to have had success!
