I am older than most trees in this city and am fairly new to smartphones. I've read the posts from when Google Camera v4.2 was first available to be sideloaded onto a Nexus 5x. I understand it works. Now I have two questions. Can anyone who has been using it for a few weeks give an opinion on it's value? Is it worth installing?

Second question, if it's worth installing, how do I do it? I understand I have to get rid of the current Google Camera app, then download the APK and sideload it. How do you do that?

My Nexus 5x is straight stock. No rooting.

Once again I've been reminded of the old saying, "Nothing is difficult for the person who knows what the hell he's doing." I read the posts referred and decided to give it a try. I found the site to download and started the download. It took awhile and said, "Down Load Unsuccessful." I tried four times and one downloaded. I went and found it, which wasn't simple, and when I clicked installed it said there was an error parsing or something like that. So, I found another site with the download. I downloaded it and it work. I got a message that asked if I went to install it. Sure. Another message that said this download could be horrible and was I sure I wanted to take the risk. Oh, why not? Then I got a message saying installing unapproved APKs wasn't allowed. I went to settings and eventually found when the change the setting. Back I went and installed V4.2. Then I looked for the new icon. No new icon. So, I went to settings again and checked the version on my camera app. Yep, V.4.2. I went to home screen, taped on the time--which is how I start my camera--and the Google Camera App started. I noticed the grid lines and knew it was, in fact, the new one. Now, I'm heading out shortly to take some photos.

Thanks, Badcat.
