So, my google cardboard arrived this morning ... and it literally is a 2-3 min job of putting together. Just click the tabs in, and away you go. First thing is to grab the google cardboard app, which comms with a few demos on it. The google cardboard also comes with an NFC tag attached, so once the app is installed, it recognises the phone

The cardboard app includes functions to view photosphere photos you may have taken, a walk around a windy wood and street view type app. These are real good to get an idea of what can be done

There is also a rollercoaster one, which is good .. you can look around whilst running through the rollercaster, look behind etc. There is also an asteroids type game, where you look around to destroy the asteroids ... the gun auto fires when locked on to an asteroid ... took a bit of getting used to , but fun when got the hang of it. You are also supposed to be able to watch 3d videos on it, with another app, but not got around to that yet

Can definitely see this being a great idea, and more and more apps are being released for this.

The google cardboard, is, as it says made of cardboard, so not sure how long it will last when my kids get hold of it. The lenses are not adjustable, so you cannot get the focus perfect on it, but, it seemed to be fine for me .. .everything seemed to be in focus

One thing that I did find, was after using it for a while, I started to feel a little queasey. Reckon this is just down to not being use to this feeling of the immersion. With more use, this will pass I reckon

So .. .first impressions of google cardboard (from amazon), well .. for £10, it is a great impulse buy, or for someone for christmas. The apps on it work well, and if you have taken photosphere pics, it allows you to view them as when they were taken

This is the one I purchased .. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...ag=hawk-future-21&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU4049487

This just about fits the G3. The G3 is slightly to big, but it still works .. haven't noticed any of the screen being cut off. But there are also other places that will sell slighlty larger ones, but they are more costly, around £18

Thx for your impressions. I'm definitely interested in this as someone who used to do stereo photography with an Iloca Stereo Rapid and Stereo Realist cameras, as well as homemade stuff. If the Cardboard's lenses, which I imagine are plastic concavo-convex, are intolerably crappy, I daresay it would be possible to replace them with better ones. But perhaps they're excellent, with no traces of red/blue colour fringes for example? Also it might be possible to reinforce the cardboard with resins or other strengthening materials.
Ten quids well-spent then.

Yep, it does look like the lenses can be swapped out. In fact, you can just download the templates from google cardboard themselves, and then fit some good lenses. I went for the the quick route lol

I am interested in buying an expensive, higher-quality one.

How was the screen? Did it look crisp to you? Playing a game with a bluetooth remote sounds awesome.

Yeah, pretty crisp to be honest, even with what is probably low quality lenses

For something maybe better quality, could look at durovis dive
