Google Currents Widget not working

I tried installing the native Google Currents widget on my home screen today. However, when I did so, I just got a "please wait..." message followed by the spinning wheel of death that just kept spinning as though it were loading something. I let it sit for several minutes and nothing happened. I uninstalled and re-installed it, and had the same result. Any ideas?
