AC Question

An MP3 file is shared to my Google Drive. On a Nexus 6P (Android 7.1.1), I download it. When I look in the Download folder, the file has lost its .mp3 exxtension. I can edit the name and add the extension--the album cover is added automatically and the file plays as expected.

When I download from Drive to Windows 10, the file has kept its .mp3 extension.

Am I missing a setting on the 6P so Drive will retain the file extension on downloading?

Thanks!!!

Welcome to Android Central! When you look at the file in Google Drive, does it actually show up as a music file, denoted by an icon that looks like musical notes?

Good question!!

In Drive, the icon is a red square with a white silhouette of a pair of headphones.

Once the file is downloaded to the phone's Download folder, the icon is a greyish square. (This is from memory so I might be a little off.)

Once I edit the file name in the Download folder and add .mp3, the icon changes to a thumbnail of the album cover, or a red icon with a white musical note inside.

Thank you!

Strange, I can't duplicate that issue on mine. When you look at the filename in Google Drive, is .mp3 part of the filename?
