Well, even less than useless, it actually causes other problems. I start a hangout and invite my wife and about 90% of the time she doesn't get any notification. Same result if she tries to start it. We both have the Razr MAXX.
After trying to use Hangout, the volume for everything on my phone is almost mute. I have to do the fake battery pull to get it back.
Completely worthless app.
