As I'm sure everyone knows registration opens next Wednesday for I/O. I'm trying to convince my other half to let me go. Have trouble justifying a $900 ticket. I can purchase the student ticket (my last year I'll be able too). Did anyone go last year with a student ticket? Does the student ticket get you the free stuff too? This would be easier to sell to my other half. ;-) Either way, I hope I can go this year and beat the ticket sell out. :D

You do realize that Google has decided to stop handing out free stuff this year? (except for a couple of under-$50 gadgets)

How do you know they have stopped handing out free stuff this year? The whole purpose of this keynote is to get those devices in the hands of developers, learn what is coming this year, see the future technology that is being developed and so on. One of the reason they give our devices is we can start making new apps accordingly and make our old apps better to fit the device better etc because once the item hits the market, everything is already done before hand. This gets consumer to buy the device faster then they would otherwise and there are whole lot of other reason.

Would like to know what your sources are though?

aslowe, I got the student ticket as well and trust me it is well worth the money. You will gain so much knowledge and items that you won't even think twice about the money you spent. Hope you got the ticket tho!

I wanted to go for the experience regardless. I tried to buy this morning. I had the ticket twice and wallet timed out when I went to buy. :-/ Maybe next year.

well... Slickdeals and Google ruined it for the real developers.... one conservative estimate(based on the Slickdeals thread with 15,000+ views) is that hundreds of Slickdeals members are buying up Google I/O 2013 tickets in order to get the freebies, either for resale or personal use.

See thats just not right. Google really needs to start implementing a system where mostly developers end up going because in the end those are the ones that will benefit the ecosystem. The freebies this year are going to be better then last year so thats why every person wants to go because the resale value of those items will be double even triple since they won't come to the market for a while.

Could you please post the thread on here, just want to take a look at it.
