If I uninstall updates it works fine again.

Try Safe Mode, and if it persists in that, send feedback to Google and your device manufacturer.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? What happens if you go to Settings>Apps​, select Maps, then Clear Cache/Clear Data?

uninstall it then do a clean install from the play store.
