I have a Moto G5 Plus and when using Google Maps I can't find the setting to play sound through the phone. As soon as the phone connects to the car Bluetooth all sound dies. I want to play sound through the phone speaker unless there is a way to play through the car. I don't believe that can be done on a 2015 Honda cr-v

I tried that, however as soon as the Bluetooth is off it picks up the car and switches back on. (edit) I figured out how to keep the Bluetooth off, however if I do this I can't make phone calls via the car.

Normally I use Waze, but when I get directions directly from chrome it uses Google Maps

Next chance you get, try another app. In the meantime, go into your Bluetooth settings and find your CR-V's pairing. Go into the settings for the CR-V entry and you should see a screen similar to the attached screenshot. Make sure media audio is turned on, as this is needed to play the GPS and other media through the stereo. And of course make sure the stereo is set to Bluetooth as the source.Capture%2B_2018-08-15-20-37-49.jpg

The only thing that worked was to disable Bluetooth. However doing that leaves me without hands free phone use. Not good, I will have to use Waze even though for certain situations Google Maps is better

Even without Bluetooth you can use Google Assistant in a phone holder to make calls and messages hands free, the audio only from the phone.
Caller Name Talker is a good app for hands free and eyes free communication.
