Due to Verizon messages+ being continued we have tried Google Messages. Love the secure feature, but find if we create a group text with a name and delete the message thread, we have to recreate the group again. With a large family and multiple members, a couple of our lists created contain quite a few members. With the Verizon app, it stored our group text name and members. Google does not. Are we missing something? We don’t want to have to keep old text chats indefinitely so we don’t have to recreate the group.

What do you mean if you "create the group and then delete the message thread" ?

Are you expecting to be able to have an empty group recipient, with no messages in it, in your recent list?

example: I create a group and send a text message. I give the group a name such as "kids". Everyone in the group responds back and forth. After we are finished with the discussion, I have always deleted the messages in that discussion. If I want to start another discussion later on a different subject, I used to be able to enter "Kids" as the recipients and it would populate everyone in the "kids" group to receive the text message(s). However, with Google Messages, I have to create a kids group and start all over. With Version Message+ it remembered who was in the group, even if I deleted all previous messages in that group.

I'd guess that the app developers assumed that if one deletes all the messages in a group thread, that then the user also doesn't have a need anymore for the existence of the empty group to be remembered about. I think the same behaviour from the app happens if one deletes all messages that one might have with a single contact, a non group thread (per se), the app will also stop displaying that contact as a contact for which there was recently any messages exchanged.
