I have always used the Samsung Messages app, probably because it was default on my Notes. I like that it integrates well with the Do Not Disturb setting on the phone, i.e. I get to decide which contacts get through to me when in DND mode.

If I switch to Google Messages, do I lose that integration with the DND settings on my Note 20 Ultra?

Good question, I would think.it will from the default message app you choose

Yes, I tested. You'll lose the integration.

I wish t-mobile would play nice and allow RCS with the stock Samsung app. I miss the categorizing my contacts for quick access with RCS when I used a sprint sim.

I use Pulse SMS (& have never used Samsung text app) but I set up my DND independently of any text app. I just allow exceptions (Contacts that are marked as Favorites) in the DND settings for phone and/or incoming texts to be allowed when DND is on.

yep...have this same setup using Google Messages on Pixel 5. Favorites can get through. And you have to be pretty special to be able to wake me up when I'm sleeping :)

I stopped using Samsung Messages. When they got rid of Chatbots - even though I rarely used them - it made me think they were really not supporting their own stock texting app much and then from what I understand, the S21 doesn't even come with Samsung messages, but rather Google messages installed. I went to Google Messages (it's Android Messages, right? lol) and while there are some things I miss, I'm ok with it. It doesn't do a good job with shrinking MMS that is too big and Samsung did a decent job with that. I wish everything supported RCS. Sigh. Pipe dream.

Not know about Google messages but i use chomp sms app over 6 years now. Probably because customization and cool quick reply popup that apears on top. This way no need go into messages to reply when get sms, immediately read if need reply 😅

I use Verizon Message+ and I love it. I can send high Def videos, customization is off the charts, I can easily message anyone not on the same platform. Zero issues ever.
