OK, I just figured it out.

Not sure what you meant by global or individual, but I think individual.

I do have another question on this.

On the Google Messaging app - do you know how to remove the tone when you send a message?

The alert sound that it makes after you hit send?

Global meaning anyone text coming in at the time is the same tone.

I don't think u can change when it sends a message the tone

In the Messages app, tap your profile pic, then Messages Settings, and turn the toggle off for "Hear outgoing and incoming messages sounds."
