anyone have issues since the update? mine has become unusable. force closes constantly, keyboard shuts down, and tonight contacts were not showing up (only phone numbers). this started after update.

I've cleared app cache, app data, and wiped system cache multiple times. nothing fixed the problem. had to go back to stock messaging app

Mine works perfectly. ..try uninstalling Google messenger completely, reboot, wipe system cache, reinstall and reboot again...

I had random force closes before Hangout 3.0 but its fixed now.

Edit - Ah Messenger. Thought you meant Hangouts. Whoops

only issue i have found is this

so all other messaging apps dont need data enabled to send or receive pictures. I downloaded google messenger and if I send one picture with data off it will send fine but as soon as I try to send the second it will fail until I enable data...wierd

OK, I haven't gone back to Google Messenger since the issue. I installed the VZW Messenger+ app and have been using that since. Just now I had one of the same issues I had with the Google app...while typing the keyboard would close and would not open. Force close the app, open a msg, keyboard would appear and then close. Had to restart phone and now it seems to be working again.

Think it is keyboard or messaging apps? Again, did not have this issue before the update.

I've had the stock keyboard do that before on Chrome and Hangouts so maybe its the keyboard.

Its my understanding that pictures or videos sent over SMS automatically switch to MMS, which uses data ....

It seems like they have fixed most of the bugs I've had using Google Messenger. The only one I get every now and then, is a 'message not sent, tap to try again' note on a message. Seems to only happen when a message lags on sending and I switch conversations, or out of the app entirely, before it has finished sending. But I usually will get responses to the messages that supposedly did not send.

I thought so too but I always have data and wifi off when I dont need it and I can send and receive pictures without any data connection

Any bytes of MMS content sent or received is not counted against your data plan. They only count against your message plan, if you don't have unlimited messaging.

just posted a new thread. I don't think it's Google Messenger, but rather a memory leak somewhere causing text apps to crash
