Google Nexus 5 - can't get contacts from my old phone

I'm happily with my new N5. But can't get my Google contacts that were created in the phone-contacts section of my old phone, an lg optimus elite (don't ask...).

On the optimus e I've set that gmail account to background sync, made sure contacts were set to sync, have done additional syncs, made sure Wi-Fi was working, etc, but the contacts created on my phone can't be found in web gmail or in my nexus 5 contact list.

Please help! I have a LOT of contacts I don't want to lose.

Your should have an option to export your contact list to your internal storage/sdcard. From there you can pull that file off and import it via computer into your Gmail account online.

It would be called a CSV file.
