Google Nexus 5 completely dead

So I was using my nexus 5 a couple of days ago and then just put it down on the desk next to me. A few minutes later when I wanted to check something the phone was turned off and does not turn back on again.
It is different to the boot loop because when I plug it into the charger I'm still not getting any response from the phone (i.e. the charging icon) nor does it keep restarting. It is simply dead.

I have tried to do all the power+volume button combinations but nothing.

Does anyone know what could have happened and how it can be fixed? I've only had the phone for around 8 months.

Sometimes pressing and holding for a minute or two will fix it. It happened to my own 5, though I don't now recall the button combination.

Mine did this today, I ended up holding vol up + vol down + power for almost a minute before it booted up again.

This was after 6 hours of non-use, battery dropping to 15%, and the back of the phone under the camera feeling warm. Not sure what's going on with that either.
