Google Nexus 6 Its the end of the Nexus brand

Re: So its just anothe phone now, not special?

Note4 is 699 unlocked on Verizon, with better hardware.

At $350 its easy to excuse the N5 shortcomings. At $650 the N6 cannot have any.
Good so we reached the price of perfection at $650.00, good to know.

Re: So its just anothe phone now, not special?

Yeah, that doesn't make sense to me. I am curious to see how much space is on the 32 GB Nexus. I am still going to buy the pure edition Moto X (I might wait for the X Play) though. 24 GB is enough for me.
I know it's not a phone but my Nexus 10 32gb version left me with 28gb after I did a factory reset, recently and has Android 4.4.4. I don't know if Lollipop has larger footprint then Kit Kat, and there is the dial er in phones. In any case I would expect more then 25gb left over from a Nexus phone.

Re: So its just anothe phone now, not special?

Price is same as any other flagship phone
Google didn't say if carrier version would be free of bloatware
Google didn't say if carrier version would get updates direct from Google

So Nexus 6 is just like any other phone sold, except its branded by Google?

There are only going to be two different versions of the phone. One for the Americas and one for the rest of the world. The one for the Americas has all the bands necessary to cooperate with the 4 major US carriers and US Cellular. That is a huge accomplishment, in my opinion. I highly doubt that there will be any carriers able to delay any update process because there isn't a carrier specific model number or sku. Just The Americas model and the International model.

Nexus One and Nexus S -$530. Galaxy Nexus $649. Get over it.

Re: The carriers forced the price

I absolutely agree with this. The carriers stuff us up yet again ... :(

Re: The carriers forced the price

It's never bothered Google before that their phones weren't carried in all of the major carriers' stores. There have been exceptions over the years, but for the most part, the Nexus phones have stayed out of the stores, and the price has remained low.

For whatever reason, Google doesn't seem interested in "compromising" anymore with it's Nexus line. They wanted to include the best features, get it to as many people as possible, and to hell with everything else. It's quite a dramatic change in approach.

Hopefully with this newfound money they will use for advertising then. More people having vanilla android could be a good thing.

I like touchwiz out of all the skins personally but having people educated on vanilla android might make people more aware and ask for changes from Samsung HTC LG or whatever

Re: The carriers forced the price

Carriers generally pay very near the retail price of the phone.

Re: The carriers forced the price

Profit people. Yes Moto could have priced it lower but this phone sells and it makes no sense to sell something that's 650 worth of product @ 400. Same concept works with gas, batteries, potatoes, candy and software.

Re: The carriers forced the price

Keep in mind that the Nexus 5 costs more at T-Mobile than it does on the Google Play Store.

I have a feeling buying directly from Google Play will be a little bit cheaper. May only be $50 cheaper, but it's a little something.

This phone won't sell, way too big. Too bad cause it's pretty dang nice other than size. Needs to be closer to 5".

Yes let's ban all the carriers! Boycott them! Screw em all!

You do realize there are many prepaid carriers who don't rip you off like the 4 big ones.

Re: The carriers forced the price

I don't see how it's the carriers fault.

From my understanding, Google would purchase the Nexus 4 and 5 at full price from LG, but then subsidize them on the Play Store. However at retail stores, they were purchased off LG at full price and priced at full price with no subsidy.

This time round it seems like Google doesn't want to subsidize the Nexus phones anymore.

The Nexus 6 is a great phone (pending review of battery life and camera) but its not a Nexus.

The Nexus brand over the last few years, since the debacle of the Galaxy Nexus, has come to stand for an affordable, high end phone with pure Android, accessible to anyone and free from carrier tyranny. I know many people who bought the N4/N5, esp after price drops, and used it with prepaid, the TMobile $30 plan etc. It was a phone anyone could buy without signing up for contracts.

That ends today. Google has decided it wants the profits. No more cheap phones for the masses. You want cheap - get the N5, Moto G, last years Moto X, or buy used.

Its a drastic shift in focus and I have to sy its not all for the good. Instead of taking a stand against carriers Google has given in to them. There is no guarantee they will even allow direct updates from Google.

Ok but the Nexus 6 at $650 and use it on them. You didn't get my point at all.

Re: Its the end of the Nexus brand

So prior to the Nexus 4, when the Nexus One, Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus sold for full high-end pricing, that was still considered 'Nexus'.

Then we had two years of Google subsidizing the cost of the phones and making a loss, now they don't want to make that loss any more and all of a sudden it's no longer 'Nexus'?

Yeah, ok. Whatever you say, because it seems you're the authority on what constitutes as 'Nexus' or not. *rolls eyes*

I agree with this. When I was reading the news on Engadget (I think), there was a posteer who actually mentiooned that Google should be selling at a loss (or less of a profit anyway, but you get what I mean). I like everyone whish it woudl be cheaper, but we've been spoiled by the Nexus 4 and pricing. Now it's back to normalcy.
