Google Nexus 6 on T-Mobile

Hello!

I have Sprint and I'm very interested in buying the Nexus 6 from the Google Play Store. However, I have a very strong dislike for Sprint and I want to leave them as soon as possible. My contract ends in January for one of my lines, so I was thinking about buying the Nexus 6 on the Play Store, using it on Sprint, and then later switching carriers (to AT&T or T-Mobile).

If I do this will the phone be compatible? Or would I have to buy a new one? I saw some comments in a different thread that talked about using the Nexus 5 on Sprint and then going to T-Mobile and using it there, but I'm not sure if it's possible with the Nexus 6.

Thank you for your time. I appreciate it.

ATT and TMO should be absolutely no problem. It probably may not work on Sprint! So if you are planning on jumping sip to ATT or TMO you should be rest assured that it will work flawlessly on those two carriers and get full LTE.

From what I've read it should be able to work seamlessly on every network in North America because it has all the bands in it.

That's curious. Is the phone not able to use the carrier's 3G and LTE networks?

I recall reading a bulletin about Sprint carrying the Nexus 6 and how it would work on their horrible 2,500Mhz frequency.

Yes it will work no Sprint, the Nexus 5 did. It will be on Verizon this time as well.

There's only suppose to be one version of the phone for all of the US. So technically it should work on what ever network you want to use it on.

If you buy the Nexus 6 on the Play Store, how do you go about using it on Sprint? I imagine the process is the same for the Nexus 5. Would you have to buy a Sprint-specific SIM card? I've never heard of that, so I may off on my thinking here.

idk how sprint works, but if they use a sim card, you should be able to go to a sprint store and have them give you a sim card and activate it for you.

Call or go to store .... have sprint manually add imei to your account .... use sim in phone if one came with it or sprint will give you one .... if you have a sim already activated u can put it in but until they add imei you will only get lte with the sim

Activating my playstore bought nexus 5 on my sprint account was very easy. You can go to a store to get a SIM card or you can contact Sprint Worldwide via chat or phone and they will mail you one and standard shipping was free for me. It just takes a few days to arrive in the mail.

Once you get the SIM card insert it and you can log in to your sprint account from home to activate and it takes about 2 minutes to do. If you run into trouble, the chat support should be able to handle it.

I must predicate this on the fact that my 5 was bought from the playstore. As a previous poster mentioned, Sprint must have your IMEI already in its database for them to activate. Playstore and Sprint purchased Nexus 5s IMEIs are in Sprint's database so activation is as described above.

However, nexus 5s bought from t-mobile or other sources are NOT automatically added to Sprint's database, so while the phone is technically perfectly compatible with sprint's network, actually activating it can be a real PITA.

Hopefully Sprint will have this problem fixed for the Nexus 6, but if you know you want to activate your 6 on Sprint, i'd play it safe and buy it from the playstore or sprint directly and not another carrier.

Stanleywinthrop, that was very helpful and increased my level of confidence. Thank you very much.

I will be buying the Nexus 6 from the Play Store directly, so it sure seems like I won't have a a problem activating on Sprint.

My plan is to leave Sprint just as soon as one of my contracts is up, and then switch to AT&T or T-Mobile and still be able to use the Nexus 6 that was purchased from the Play Store on the new carrier. I'm not seeing anything that tells me it won't work.

Re: Will the Nexus 6 work on Sprint and AT&T and T-Mobile?

What I wonder is - will this be the first phone truly portable between all major US carriers?

If so, that will be a major plus.

Re: N6 on tmo?

Welcome to Android Central! I would guess that there would be no carrier bloatware preinstalled. That would be against the whole Nexus philosophy.

Re: N6 on tmo?

There's another thread on here, "Carrier Nexus 6 phones will have update delays !!" (I'd link but I don't have enough posts yet) where this is being debated right now. People are confident that buying straight from the play store will obviously mean no bloatware, but it sounds like nobody knows for sure what'll happen when buying from the major carriers until it's actually being sold, sadly.

I'm going through Sprint and hoping for the pure Google experience as well, especially because it'll be my first Nexus (I'm coming from an htc evo 4g lte and definitely ready to upgrade haha). Worst case, hopefully it's nothing too egregious, but next month we'll find out!

Do you know that you won't be able to use voice and data at the same time( unless on wifi), that means no talking and checking Facebook, no Internet, no picture mail.. No data at all. I came from the Evo also and that threw me for a loop. I really miss that function.

Re: N6 on tmo?

Ideally, it will be one SKU (XT1103) and the only thing that'd vary with carrier versions would be pre-installed SIMs.
Really hoping it's the same device in terms of being unlocked and no bloat regardless of Play Store or carrier stores.

Brimming over with excitement. Had the note 2 and note 3. I've personally passed on the nexus 4 and 5 because of the screen size and battery. Now that they've upgraded both, I'm using my next "JUMP" (been Saving for this by the way) on this bad boy.

Is that true with all Android phones? Are there any plans to correct that?
