Hi,

I got my nexus 6p and noticed that the person on the other line is barely able to hear me. This is happening with and without the case. Any one else facing the issue or do you know what the issue might be.

Thanks,
P

Re: Call quality

Welcome to Android Central! Can they hear you normally if you turn on speakerphone, or use wired/Bluetooth headsets? Also, check the primary phone mic opening--can you see a lot of debris (like lint) stuck in there?

Re: Call quality

Some phones have a noise cancelling setting that can mess with calls, cancelling out your voice thinking its background noise. Does the 6p have that setting?

Re: Call quality

I noticed the same thing on mine tonight. My wife said she could barely hear me or it was muffled while I was talking normal but if I put it on speaker, it was okay.

Anybody have suggestions on a fix?

Re: Call quality

If I move my phone even slightly away from my mouth while on a phone call the other person can't hear a word I'm saying. I've returned one unit because of that and now it's the same with the second unit. Anyone else? Any fixes?

Re: Call quality

Its noise cancellation, meaning its a mostly software thing that prevents "Unwanted sound" in this case your voice being captured in a call. There is currently no option to cancel or re-calibrate it now. Wait for Google to update it or find a custom rom that fixes it.

Re: Call quality

No problems with call quality for me yet (32gb Graphite). I've had numerous calls in my quiet apartment, and last night I was in a super loud bar, and we were able to have a short conversation surprisingly easy - no issues hearing on either end. Earpiece was loud enough for me, and the noise canceling must have been doing it's job for the person on the other end. Speaker phone has been fine too, nothing out of the ordinary.

One thing I have noticed over the years is sometimes how people hold the phone naturally, it covers certain microphones or sensors, and that can reduce call quality. With my N5 my pinky would always cover the mic, and if I used my shoulder to hold the phone to my ear to free up both hands, 9/10 times I wouldn't be able to hear anything on the other end. None of those issues with the 6P so far.

Re: Call quality

Could you please try moving it slightly away from your mouth and let me know if the voice quality is still the same? There is no issue when I keep the phone next to my mouth but as soon as I even slightly move it away the quality goes down. I've also tried, as someone posted above, covering the noise cancelling on the back and the quality of the voice was much much better.

Re: Call quality

I've noticed if I cover the back mic up my voice quality goes up a ton. It goes from muffled to clear just by covering the back mic. I think it is software related. The noise cancellation might be too aggressive.
