1st ... no way to mute the shutter sound in Google Camera for the 6P? Not a big concern, but strange that we don't at least have the option.

2nd ... what other camera apps do you guys use? will that app work with the 6P's slow motion capabilities?

(I miss the camera interfaces/features on my Moto X's)

There are countries where it is essentially illegal to use a camera without a shutter sound (for privacy reasons). Perhaps Google, selling in many countries, is sensitive to this fact and prefers to not take the risk of getting into any more trouble with foreign governments.

Having said that, Camera Zoom Fx is a pretty nice camera with tons of useful options, including the ability to disable the shutter sound on the Nexus 6P. See https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ils?id=slide.camZoomFree&hl=en&token=70AHmD_f

Re: Camera Alternatives?

When my 6P is on vibrate, the camera is totally silent. It is tied to the ringtone/notification volume on my device.

My understanding is the reason they are hard to mute is to deter people from taking unwanted pictures of others (though in public anything is fair game, except for of course invasive pictures or those of a sexual nature).

I quite like the stock camera app so far. No nonsense, easy to navigate, and blazing fast. I'll be using it for the time being at least with no complaints. If you like to manipulate every setting and shoot RAW, you can try Manual Camera.

Yes it allows RAW capture, but keep in mind a RAW image is completely unprocessed, so it will look rather dull until you export it and apply post-processing in Photoshop or whatever program you use (sharpening, curves, saturation, etc.) The program also has to have RAW support for the 6P, which maybe scarce at the moment. Also keep in mind that processing headroom on images from a 1/2.3" sensor is extremely low and unimpressive, especially if you're used to processing RAWs from a DSLR of some kind.

Re: Camera Alternatives?

yea, I'm not a photographer; so, I don't need RAW -- just thought it was bold to try and offer it on a phone camera. :) I noticed Manual Camera does not have a video mode to flip to in a hurry; so, I clicked the refund button. Interesting app, though.

You can also disable the shutter sound using a very short Tasker routine that mutes the phone when you are using the camera.

I don't know how to post that without sounding creepy. For the record, I don't use my phone to do creepy things. :)

I like ProShot. Manual Camera also appears to be good. There are a couple of others whose names I can't currently recall. Much will depend on what features are important to you, as well as the interface you prefer.

Does anyone have any shots comparing proshot to stock google app?

Re: Camera Alternatives?

Do the third party camera apps still allow HDR+ to work as normal? That is one of the most impressive features IMHO.
