Google Nexus 6P Problems with phone or app?

I have noticed that when using the app TuneIn Radio and ha screen off for awhile when I pick up the phone the screen will not turn back on. I can still volume but the screen stays black. If I hold down the power button the message for power off will come up on the screen but nothing else. The only way I have been able to fix it is by either holding the power button down long enough for the phone restart or hitting the power button twice to launch the camera and everything goes back to normal. I don't know if it is a phone problem or a problem with the app.

When the Power Off menu comes up, do you also see the nav buttons? If so, what happens if you tap the Back or Home buttons?

The nav buttons do not come up, just the message that says power off and it looks grey like when something lights up the ambient display.
