Google Now - Hide Keyboard?

Whenever I long press on the menu to bring up google now, my keyboard pops up and covers half the screen. I can press the back button to make it go away. But then if I swipe to delete my recent searches, it automatically goes back to the search bar and the keyboard comes back. If I try to press the back button to make it go away, the recent searches just reappears. How do I make the keyboard go away?

Mine does this as well, but only on aosp roms. Doesn't do it at all in touchwiz roms.
