What does everybody think of the new upgrade to the Google Photos app? I don't like it.
I had some screenshots in with my photos, and when I updated the app they disappeared. Then I received a photo in hangouts and when i checked my photos it wasn't there, even when I tried manually saving the photo it wouldn't appear in my photos. So I thought I'd take a screenshot of the screen to save the picture. The screenshot didn't appear in my photos either. So then I started digging around in the options in the photos app and found that you now have to go into the menu and select "device folders" to view any screenshots you've taken, and photos downloaded from apps etc., they don't show up in the main photo page. So basically its a more convoluted experience, unless I'm missing something? What a crock of **** that is. Why force me to have to separate all of my photos into different folders and then hide them in a menu when I don't want to? I want all of my pictures together on one page like they used to be thank you very much. I hope its just that I'm missing a setting to be able to see all of my photos together. But I don't think so.

I think the previous version of Photos also had some convolutions. The initial screen for the old Photos app gave you "All" and "Highlights," which didn't distinguish between what was on the device and what was in the cloud. You had to swipe in from the left to select "On Device" to see what was in the local folders, or "Albums" to see your Google+ Photos sorted by album.

I suspect that part of the reason they made this change was to prevent lots of extraneous images (like cached images from apps and browsers) from showing up in the main photos feed. Perhaps they didn't think that people would generally consider their screenshots as actual photos.

I'm one of those that doesn't want my screenshots in my main photo view. I want them backed up, but it annoys me that if I choose to backup and sync my screenshots folder, or any other folder for that matter, they all show up with my camera roll pictures. Why can't they just dump them in a screenshots folder in Google Photos and then give me the option of whether or not I want them viewable in my main feed? Just personal preference, but I guess I prefer a traditional folder structure where everything has its place instead of every last image that's backed up being thrown into the same list.

I certainly understand your point of view and I'm sure there are lots of people that feel the same. I just wish they would give us more control over what's viewable once everything is backed up.

Yes, that's basically it. They should give people the option to display things how they like

If you go into device folders you have to set up screenshot to Backup in cloud and they'll show up under the month in the main feed.
