Google pixel fastest growing smart phone in the us

It's a glass back that feels like plastic. It doesn't feel like an iPhone XS or a Note 9.

I believe that for you but it doesn't feel like that for me. It doesn't matter for me because I won't walk around with an unprotected phone. I have a glass backed case so that works for me except it's slippery compared to caseless.

I'm sure if Google had an amazing smartwatch on par with the Apple Watch, Apple would be swirling down the toilet.

And I'm sure Apple will be doing just fine even if Google managed to make a smartwatch on par with the Apple Watch.

I agree. I don't see a Google Watch causing Apple/iPhone to shutdown lol.

I'll take the 43% Y-o-Y growth with a grain of salt, but I'm glad that the brand is finding it's footing and is beginning to resonate with their audience. It's positive news, for sure.

Apple will always be just fine in that regard. They have a huge following and an enormous market share.

It think when it comes to the RAM discussion, we first need to think of what kind of apps the user would use on a daily basis. For instance, if the user games a lot on the phone, then 4GB or RAM is somewhat pushing it as games take quite of bit of RAM. By design, Android kicks apps out of RAM to make room for other apps as you use them, thus causing re-fresh. But if you use simple apps which don't use a lot of RAM, then by default you can have more apps open in the background and switch between them.
A good video I came across.

I haven't had any conflicts with premature apps closing regardless of what I run after the update that adjusted the early memory management issues.

I had. Especially YouTube. For some reason, almost always refreshes when I try to go back to that app.....

Well the article is very specific in that it talks about US brands. So it's putting the Pixel against Apple, Motorola and what else?

Actually, I think the way the title is phrased lends itself to misinterpretation one way or the other. If you follow the link from the Forbes article to the SA article it draws from, the actual body therein starts off saying "Google Pixel is now the fastest-growing major smartphone brand in the United States." It's equally easy to infer that they are saying that, of all major smartphone brands, the Pixel is the fastest growing among them, within the US market.

In either event, the key takeaway from this is that the article recognizes Google as being in that company, as a "major" smartphone brand.

As to its being the fastest growing, being so new its growth year-over-year is likely to be relatively greater than established brands. You're unlikely to see fast food chains like McDonalds, Subways, Starbucks earn a similar mantle whenever a relative newcomer enters the mix as the bar for relative growth is so low for them.

Good point..

I took my read from the chart. Pixel up 43% Y-o-Y, rest of the total US phone market (i.e. all brands sold in the US) down 235 Y-o-Y

A quote straight from the Strategy Analytics article:

"According to new research from our smartphone-tracker service, Google Pixel was the fastest-growing major smartphone brand in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Google Pixel outgrew all its top-ten rivals, including Apple, Samsung and Motorola (Lenovo)."

Caveats about reading to much into a relatively new player in the OEM game apply, but it's still an indicator that Google's potential to truly compete shouldn't be dismissed.

it's a good sign considering apple usually and Samsung have the last quarter.
