Google Play Comic lag on new Nexus 7

So today my new tablet arrived from Best Buy and it is as good as I thought. The only downside I can find is that on the Play Books app there is some frustrating lag when turning pages. It takes sometimes up to 5 seconds to buffer a new page and it really ruins the experience. Does anyone know why that is and is there a solution to fix this without rooting? Any help is appreciated. My WiFi is excellent by the way.

I've been locked into the Amazon Kindle reader for years. There's no lag with Kindle page turns. You might compare the two.

Last I checked Kindle doesn't have comics.

I read Comics on my Kindle. You can read most Comics by using Amazon's Kindle Comic Creator or the (better) Kindle Comic Converter.
