Google Play Music initializing itself?

I thought I had a virus on my phone, a Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro. I was receiving emails about attachments failing to send, when I hadn't been sending emails AND had no record of the emails claiming to be sent. In addition, Google Play Music was initializing without me doing anything. So I saved my pictures, and did a factory reset of both my phone and the micro sd I'd added for extra space. Everything looked fine for almost a full 24hours, with Lookout running. I was adding ebooks and mobi's to my library for a long trip I'm about to take, all of which seem to be coming from good sources. No red flags from my computer security. I even emailed them to myself through a google account, so Google got a chance to scan them for viruses. But when I was finished adding them, Google Play Music is running again. I'd be willing to uninstall or block it, but I'm concerned that it's just a symptom of a virus, not the virus itself. Any suggestions?

Thank you for the welcome!
Would it still be trying to sync if I haven't added any music or media to the device? All I've added is ebooks since I reformatted it.

Hi, and welcome to the forums!

Play Music syncs in the background, which is probably why you see it starting again. It'll start up to sync any music you uploaded from another device.

Not really. There are tons of posts, right here on AC, regarding this problem. Even if you don't have anything in your Play Music, its still running in the background.

This is a problem, which appeared when the new version came out. The only way to stop it, is to uninstall all updates, and disable the app.

If you absolutely have to use it, and don't like it running in the background, then you'll have to force stop it, every once in a while.

You mentioned other posts, but I must not have been using the right search terms. So long as it's not a virus, I can handle that. It just showed similar signs so that I didn't want to risk it. Thanks so much for the replies, you guys. You've taken a huge load off my mind! :D
