Google Play Newsstand - CPU hog

I like the functionality, but Newsstand is my biggest user of CPU
Anyone found a setting to reduce background usage and restrict CPU?

It shouldn't be doing that -- what happens if you clear its app cache/data and force close it? Does it always come back and continue to use a lot of CPU?

That didn't work, but I noticed under Settings / Accounts / Google that there was a problem with syncing
I have cleared that now, so let's see if that was the cause

So far using a lot less CPU
