Google Play not responding

More often than not, if I browse the Play Store on my desktop PC and select an item to Install to my Pixel XL - when I later look at the Pixel I see an exclamation mark in the notification bar telling me that the Play Store is not responding. I tap the notification, the Play Store opens to the correct app, I tap Install and all is well.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior?
