Google Play Services storage increase

I have a worry that's bugging me out. It's the Google Play Services app, it keeps increasing in size for some reason the more I use the phone. I checked it was about 432 MB, then later it swelled to 460 MB after I checked again. Restarting the phone was the only way of eliminating this problem temporarily, only for it to come back later, and I don't know if it has something to do with Chrome, Youtube or other Google apps. I'm quite frustrated. Is there an alternative way to fix this issue?

I’ve just checked mine, which is at 780mb. I don’t see that as a problem. Why do you think that it is in your case (and I suppose mine as well)?

Google Play Services is an integral part of the system, and so will build up some cache and data over time. On my Pixel 6 Pro, it's currently using 896 MB. This is pretty normal. Which phone do you have? If a few hundred MB is causing that much problem with your storage, then it's probably time to look into upgrading to a phone with significantly more internal storage. Or start paring down how many apps you have installed. Remember that low-spec phones with relatively little internal storage are not intended to be powerhouse/workhorse devices with tons of apps installed. These days, you need at least 64 GB of internal storage if you want to install lots of apps and still have the phone work well.

I said this before, my J7 got the black screen issue that my family is too financially occupied to fix. I use an old low spec J1 as just a compensation but I willingly don't claim ownership of it. I constantly keep an eye on the storage because it's in constant danger of filling up due to many reasons, like Google Play Services or Facebook app. I don't download apps nor play games with it, just browse the web.

Again, if we only had money and if only we didn't live like poor tenants, I'd be more than happy to upgrade to a new thing. It'll take too long before that's possible but I digress.

Guess I'll have to stick till then.

Yeah, sorry to hear about those difficulties. The J1 and the J7 are both low-spec budget phones, so this is not surprising.:(

You could clear Google Play services cache from time to time. It will lower the usage but, It will go back up eventually. I clear it for Google Play store too to keep it working properly. It goes bonkers from time to time. I would clear the cache for those gas guzzling apps like Facebook, Messenger, social media, news, browsers and email apps. They take up a lot of storage. If for example Microsoft edge is 350 MB and the cache makes the storage go up to 700 MB that browser is holding a lot of data. You are a surf junkie! Clear the cache and the data should go back to 350 MB at least temporarily untill you start surfing like crazy and it creeps back up. Visit your apps drawer and start cleaning those storage and space hogging apps!

That's not that big in size honestly. It's one of the most important apps on your phone so I would just leave it be. Google is constantly updating it's apps to fix bugs, improve security, add new features/functionality and Google play services helps with this.

To save space you should go through and uninstall unused or unneeded apps. Remove or disable Facebook and use the website instead. You can create a bookmark for quick access to it. Then I would upload all your images and videos to a cloud like Google photos and then remove them from your device after. Download Google files and go to the clean tab. It gives an organized look at suggestions to help with storage.

I just checked that mine is 4.45 GB after cleaning cache, so I suppose mine is too well?
Welcome.

That seems high. I don’t know the cause. Here is mine, on a different phone from the one in my original post above. It doesn’t worry me at all. Screenshot_2023-07-27-11-03-44-18_Original.jpeg
